Mark & Liv’s Relaxed Hat Head Wedding

Hat Head wedding photography for Mark and Olivia

Wildflower Portraits photographers, Alicia and James enjoyed a gorgeous Autumn afternoon documenting the beautiful ceremony by the river in Hat Head, Macleay Valley, before taking the newlyweds and their three boys off for a couple/family shoot till the sun sank behind the horizon.

Wedding in Hat Head

Mark and Liv’s wedding was at Hat Head Holiday Park, one of the most laid back and peaceful parts on the Mid North Coast. The couple chose to have their ceremony here as this beautiful area is really special to them. Their family comes from Lismore and stays here every year, and have done for years.
Kip Harris did a lovely job as the celebrant conducting their wedding, which overlooked the gorgeous clear Korogoro Creek with the native bushland of Hat Head National Park in the background.

“Firstly I would love to Thank you once again for AH-mazing photos, well AH-mazing really doesn’t do it justice, we are so beyond thrilled with the wedding photos, I really can’t explain the joy they bring me when I look at them…Wedding amnesia is a thing, and I truly had blocked out most of the wedding, it was through your photos I was able to re-live and enjoy those moments in time again.”

“Gosh we have so many fav’s this is another on the top of our list. Our favourite movie to watch with our kids is The Spiderwick Chronicles and this photo as soon as we saw it reminded us of the cover of the movie….. you can almost see the fairies and goblins poking their heads out in this shot! Just amazing.”

Mark & Liv’s Story

One of my favourite parts of photographing weddings is meeting the couple and hearing their love story. I am a hopeless romantic (give me rom-com’s any day of the week!) and I never get tired of hearing how our couples met – it’s such a magical and life changing string of events that brings us together with our life partner and it always fills me with happiness.

Mark and Liv were working at Bunnings in the Northern Rivers, at two different locations. Their roles meant that they would often be calling the others’ store and would end up talking to each other. They both became intrigued about the person on the other end of the phone line and felt a spark. When Liv visited Mark’s store the spark grew into a flame.

One date lead to another and soon they’d fallen in love. That was 15 years ago and the happy couple now have three adorable boys, who were a big part of the wedding ceremony.

Mark and Olivia had never had a family photo shoot so after the wedding ceremony we took the opportunity to capture not only couple shoots in their portrait session but also family shots. I snuck in some extra images of the three boys together and each on their own, capturing their unique personalities and excitement for their parent’s wedding day.

“All the family shots we just adore and it’s nice to have some shots to treasure forever in one of our favourite places to holiday.”

I loved seeing that even after all these years and after all that they have been through together, when Mark and Liv said their vows, their nerves were as strong as a newer couple and their tears of joy were as real as ever. Making that commitment to each other is so meaningful.

Liv sent me the most open and beautiful message after receiving their photographs. She and Mark had both been quite sick on the day of their wedding and Liv was also very anxious about the whole day. It was so heartwarming to hear how much the photos meant to her and Mark and the way the actually helped change her self-image and confidence, as written below. This is something I’ve always strived to do, specifically in photographing women in portraits, boudoir and model shoots. I’m so happy to know that this positive impact can take place across any style of photography I’m capturing.

“Once again thank you so much Alicia, for your time and your talent, one thing I have learnt from this experience is that I do not have a great deal of self-compassion, the way I view myself when I look in the mirror is not kind but through your photos i have gained some self-esteem and self-worth, and I have made mindful and conscious steps to resolve this hurdle.”
